Our Freeze-Dried Green Beans dog treats are the pawfect guilt-free option for all dogs, but especially for those that can benefit from lower-calorie treat options. While many dogs are perfectly happy with being given plain green beans, we decided to marinate them in pork bone broth to make them an even more tasty, healthy, and appeasing snack.

What makes green beans an excellent low-calorie treat option for dogs is that they are high in fiber. This can make Green Beans an excellent and beneficial treat option for the dogs that are constantly begging for more food and treats, even though they just ate, as fiber helps promote the feeling of fullness, with the exception of some Labrador and Flat Coated Retrievers.

    • Approximately 25% of Labrador Retrievers have a genetic deletion in the POMC gene. The mutation disrupts the coding of two neutopeptides Beta-Melanocyte-stimulating hormone and beta-Endorphin. These are both involved in regulating appetite and satiety. This is why even though they just ate, they still act like you haven't fed them.
    • The deletion has been found to be more common in service dog lines and is also found in flat-coated retrievers. Link to Study.
      • If you ran a DNA test through Embark, this is the gene that they are referring to in regard to food motivation.

By promoting the feeling that they are full it makes caloric restriction that much easier because, let's be clear, dogs are excellent at manipulating and guilting us all into giving more food and or treats by giving the sad puppy eyes even when we know we shouldn't give in.

Notes About The Green Beans Diet

While many Veterinarians do recommend the green bean diet, it is not something that should be done, especially in the medium and long term, because it will eventually result in nutritional deficiencies. This can ultimately hinder the ability of a dog to actually lose weight in addition to causing further complications. If your veterinarian recommends the green bean diet for any significant amount of time, we recommend consulting with a board-certified veterinary nutritionist to aid in the development of a proper weight loss plan.
