Introducing our Freeze-Dried Trout & Glucosinolates Treats—an irresistible way to give your pup a nutritious boost packed with phytochemical-rich vegetables. Comprising 82.5% trout and 17.5% our special Glucosinolates Blend, these treats promise a tail-wagging snack that's as healthy as it is tasty!

Glucosinolates are the key compounds found in cruciferous vegetables, serving as precursors to powerful isothiocyanate products like sulforaphane. In fact, a quick search on PubMed Central reveals over 143,000 results for isothiocyanates, highlighting the growing interest in their health benefits.

The World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer even published a comprehensive handbook dedicated to the benefits of cruciferous vegetables, underscoring their significance.

While sulforaphane, derived from broccoli, is widely recognized for its health benefits, it’s just one of many beneficial isothiocyanates found in various cruciferous vegetables. Each vegetable offers unique glucosinolate profile that convert into distinct isothiocyanate products, providing a diverse array of health benefits.

We crafted our Glucosinolates Blend with five key factors in mind:

  • Glucosinolates Profile
  • Myrosinase Activity
  • Other Polyphenols
  • Nutritional Profile
  • Palatability

Our blend features:

  • Broccoli: Glucoraphanin + Myrosinase = Sulforaphane
  • Cabbage: Glucobrassicin + Myrosinase = Indole-3-carbinol, which further metabolizes into 3,3'-Diindolylmethane (DIM)
  • Cauliflower: Sinigrin + Myrosinase = Allyl isothiocyanate (AITC)
  • Daikon Radish: Glucoraphenin + Myrosinase = Sulforaphene
  • Watercress: Gluconasturtiin + Myrosinase = Phenethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC)
  • Moringa: Glucomoringin + Myrosinase = Glucomoringin isothiocyanate (Additional sugar in its chemical structure, providing greater stability)

We chose not to include broccoli sprouts for several reasons:

  1. Overstated Benefits: The glucoraphanin and subsequently sulforaphane levels in broccoli sprouts has been overstated, as the amount is contingent on the specific seeds being used, and those seeds with higher levels are not cost-effective for sprouting.
  2. Palatability Impact: While using broccoli sprouts would allow us to include slightly less broccoli, it would have a negative impact on palatability. Additionally both Watercress and Radish impact palatability, and Radish in particular is especially important due to the stability of the Myrosinase.
  3. Cost Considerations: Incorporating broccoli sprouts would increase the overall price of the treats.

If you are buying seeds for sprouting broccoli either for yourself or your dog, ask the supplier for the glucoraphanin content.
